A list for Brian

on March 12th, 2010 by Richard Orelup in Development

Last night at the #nwitweetup I got talking with Brian from The Grossbauer Group about some PHP development related things and was having trouble remembering the names of a couple things so basically just throwing together a list of those things for him. If anyone else finds it of value thats cool too. Read More!

DNS/Twitter post at NWICreative.org

on February 19th, 2010 by Richard Orelup in Development

Forgot to mention that I had done another article over at NWICreative.org. This one was on the recent attack on Twitter that got a lot of press but turned out to be not must. Overall I just wanted to talk about how DNS could be a much bigger issue that people never even thought about. Also since we none of us are major tech giants, it’s most likely that getting it fixed will take a lot longer then what it took them. Read More!

Removing current_page_parent from wp_list_pages from search and 404 pages

on February 10th, 2010 by Richard Orelup in Development - Wordpress

Yesterday got an IM from my buddy Atom Groom about an issue he was having with a Wordpress project he was working on. I’d personally never run into the issue before and it didn’t really make sense when he was first explaining it. I setup a test instance and finally realized what was going on. When using the wp_list_pages() function to generate your navigation it will add a class of “current_page_item” to the current page in that list. As well when you are on a child of...Read More!

Basically the general idea was to bring attention to the fact that even though passwords may be covered up on screen, it doesn’t mean that they are not easily grabbed by people in the know. You can find it here. http://www.nwicreative.org/learn/while-you-cant-see-your-password-i-can-in-the-html/ Funnily it also was in relation the Cascade CMS by Hannon Hill that I blasted last post. That’s actually...Read More!

My views on Hannon Hill’s Cascade Server CMS

on January 28th, 2010 by Richard Orelup in Development

Okay, so this question pops up all the time. I’ve responded before on the High Ed Cascade mailing list, but figured I’d put it in a more permanent place I could always reference. What set this off as a question on the uwebd network here http://cuwebd.ning.com/forum/topics/cascade-server-is-on-our-short?groupUrl=cascadeserver& For those of you wondering what product I am talking about because you have probably never heard of it (seems to be mostly a higher ed thing, and it’s...Read More!

The latest brute force attack on Wordpress

on January 3rd, 2010 by Richard Orelup in Development

This article has been moved from it’s original spot on the Mu Studios website, so if it looks familiar you know why. So I logged into my admin today to start work on my first real blog post and I happen to see an article listed about a new distributed attack against Wordpress. The story listed linked to this article about the attack. After seeing that it was just a brute force attack I was relieved because it wasn’t anything to scary. Read More!
